Paphiopedilum helenae Averyanov

Paph helenae

Discovered in 1996 by Averyanov, this is a delightful miniature species.  The flowers are on average smaller than 2 inches and the plants make small clumps.  You can easily have a plant with 4 or 5 flowers in a 3.5 inch pot.  Easily flowered, these plants hold the promise of breeding true miniatures in the Paph alliance.  Rare in cultivation, several German growers have started registering hybrids with this.  We look forward to seeing the offspring of a potential new breeding line.

Plant is easy to grow in culture and likes a standard Paph mix.
