Described by Jack Fowlie in 1971 based on a collected plant at the LA County Arboretum.  Flowers are variable in the amount of purple flushing on the petals.  Plant is found in Bougainville in Papua New Guinea with only one known location, as such can be rare and hard to find.  Many botanists list this as a variety of violascens.

I personally have found this plant difficult to grow.
