Standard Hybrids (by color type) Greens, Reds, Spotted, White/Pink

Greens:

CA8163 (Chianti 'Chilton' AM/RHS x Emerald Crown 'Contemporary') 6-8" $35

Paph. Emerald Crown has been made famous by its Japanese hybrid Paph. Emerald Dream. The 'Contemporary' clone is virtually identical to its circular sibling, 'Moon River' SM/JOGA. This mating with the British green Paph. Chianti 'Chilton' pairs two distinct breeding lines, and bodes well for large, clear lettuce greens with a crisp white dorsal edge.

CA8407 (Carolyn Ethel 'Lemon Frost' HCC/AOS x Hellas 'Perfecto') 4-6" $35

The pod parent is a recently awarded Standard White produced by Paph. Saint Ouens Bay. Not always used for white color, here its aim is creamy gold. Texture should be polished, and form full. Be aware that pinkish overtones are possible.

CA8414 (Emerald Dream 'Big Circle' x Todd Clark 'Emerald') 4-6" $30

Paph. Emerald Dream is, to our eyes, the finest green cross to date, in its combination of size and form. It is a Japanese hybrid, and is here mated with a contemporary American green. Once taken for granted, Green Standards are trendy again, thanks to the new levels of quality., and the growing mass market.

Reds:

CA8240 (Omdurman x Showpiece) 'Big Surprise' SM/JOGA x Amanda 'Joyance' AM/RHS) 4-6" $25

These are highly predictable for medium sized, very round flowers. They will likely have solid red to burgundy dorsals with a crisp white rim, and wide red to rose petals.

CA8421 Hamana Emy 'Wine Tasting' AM/JOS x California Girl 'Big Bear' B/CSA 4-6" $35

The pod parent is an intensely colored Japanese clone. Orchids Royale in California bred the pollen parent, which is a large, flat flower with beautiful rose red color. For us, these are an exciting blend of two distinct Red styles, and we highly recommend them.

CA8426 Colonella 'The Joy' BM/JGP x Amanda 'Joyance' AM/RHS 4-6" $25

Classic English heritage red breeding., with medium sized flowers of rounded form from the Paph. Amanda.

CA8437 (Sylvan Vale 'Sparsholt' HCC/AOS x (Keyeshill x Frank Pearce) 'Fountain Springs') 4-6" $30

Here we hope that the ultra round and flat form of the pollen parent will dominate. Smoky root beer red color is expected.

Spotted:

CA7995 (Guadalupe Perez 'Muy Bonita' x Clementine H. Churchill 'Vista Campana' B/CSA) 4-6" $20

Boldly spotted classic flowers of large size on tall stems. Easier said than done.

CA8190 (Sparsholt 'Jaguar' AM/RHS x Grandblend 'Jaguar') NBS $35

Big spots, chocolate petals, great shape . . . .all the things that Paph. Sparsholt 'Jaguar' is dominant for.

CA8197 (Spotted Waters 'Bingo' x Personality 'Plus' HCC/AOS) NBS $40

We believe Paph. Personality 'Plus' will prove itself equal to Paph. Sparsholt 'Jaguar' and Paph.Winston Churchill 'Indomitable' as a superior breeder. It has huge petals, a broad dorsal, and seems to be dominant for saturated color. Like Paph. Sparsholt, it has Paph. Blendia as one of its parents. Paired here with the colorful, boldly spotted 'Bingo', flowers are blooming with heavy spotting on both the dorsal and petals. Very nice.

CA8230 (Via Jubilo 'Green Leopard' x Western Thunder 'Amazon' HCC/AOS) 6-8" $25

Spotted flowers with strong, bold spotting on a clear green dorsal are very rare. Among the best have been the Paph. Western Thunder's, made by The Orchid Zone. Both of the parents in this cross are very large flowers with green dorsals, and big black spots. The target is more of the same.

CA8250 (Grandblend 'Jaguar' x World Famous 'Mike Tyson' AM/AJOS) 6-8" $40

Paph. World Famous 'Mike Tyson' AM/AJOS is a very round, intensely colored flower with large, bold spots, and we believe it will be a superior parent. Mated here with an outstanding flower of similar style and heritage, we are looking for the highest quality in a contemporary Spotted.

CA8252 ((World Venture x Canberra) 'Carnival' x Personality 'Plus' HCC/AOS) 6-8" $35

We previously expressed our absolute faith in the breeding qualities of Paph. Personality 'Plus'. Here it is combined with a fine flower of Ratcliffe's lineage to lock-in strong color, a good stem, bold spots in the dorsal, and very wide petals.

CA8256 (Projections 'Royale Ruby' x Tiger Hill 'Crimson Sky') NBS $20

This is a cross between a Standard Red and a Spotted flower. This type of cross typically makes spotted flowers which have very beautiful, strong color. We especially like this type of cross.

CA8314 (Via Figueroa 'Tokyo' BM/JOGA x Tokyo Excellence 'Kingdom' SM/JOGA) 6-8" $35

We believe that Paph. Tokyo Excellence 'Kingdom' will prove to be one of the top contemporary Spotted breeders. It is now a key element of our breeding program. It is a large flower, and its seedlings are vigorous. Crossed here with a huge flower, we expect large flowers with broad segments, moderately sized dorsal spots, and tan petal and pouch color.

CA8324 (Spotted Waters 'Bingo' x Flight Path 'New Valley') 4-6" $30

Based upon performance, Paph. Spotted Waters has the characteristic of imparting spotted petals to its progeny. The Paph. Flight Path does also. So, we look for spotted petals as the key element of this hybrid.

CA8331 Sparsholt ('Jaguar' AM/RHS x 'Telstar') 4-6" $25

An uncommon sibling strain of a Standard grex, using perhaps the most popular Spotted parent of the 1980s and early '90's, 'Jaguar'.

CA8337 (Two Worlds 'Orbit' x World Famous 'Mike Tyson' AM/JOS) 4-6" $35

Again, we look for very strong color from this Paph. World Famous, and broad petals.

CA8409 (Western Thunder 'Granite' x Winston Leopard 'The Globe') 4-6" $30

Paph. Western Thunder is a large flowered grex whose real strength is its unusual, and strong, color. Green dorsals with very bold black spots are typical, as are red-orange tinged petals and pouch. Crossed here with a California clone of similar size and boldness, we feel this is a desireable direction.

CA8413 World Leader (Personality 'Plus' HCC/AOS x Small World 'Adventure') 4-6" $35

This Paph. Small World is very consistent in producing smoothly colored, clearly marked spotted flowers on vigorous plants. With 'Plus', we have an especially fine strain of this British grex.

CA8419 (Western Thunder 'San Carlos' HCC/AOS x World Famous 'Mike Tyson' AM/JOS) 4-6" $45

This cross is about color (see comments in CA8409). With the saturated intensity of the Japanese clone of Paph. World Famous, we are truly excited about these.

CA8425 (Sparsholt 'Jaguar' AM/RHS x Tokyo Excellence 'Kingdom' SM/JOGA) 4-6" $40

Superior cross for strong color and bold markings on large flowers.

CA8455 (Pacific Ocean x Mill Valley) 'Bubbles' x Personality 'Plus' HCC/AOS) 4-6" $35

The Paph. Pacific Ocean background of this cross is intended to strengthen the qualities of size and color inherent in the 'Plus' clone

CA8478 (Western Thunder 'Amazon' x (Via Tokyo x Bell Canyon) 'Brilliant') 4-6" $35

The 'Brilliant' clone is as strikingly colored as this style comes. The Paph. Western Thunder we've already highlighted for its unusually strong tones. This cross is for intense, vivid color.

White / Pink

CA8216 (Saint Ouens Bay 'Cerritos' AM/AOS x Elfstone 'Mammoth') 4-6" $35

This is a parallel hybrid to Paph. Buena Bay, a cross we made years ago which proved highly successful. Here, a much larger, fuller Standard Green is used. The best will likely be creamy white flowers with high gloss on tall stems. Vigorous growth is a plus.

CA8301 (Lemon Pie 'Ponderosa' x Saint Ouens Bay 'Sunny' HCC/AOS) 4-6" $35

We first used Paph. Saint Ouens Bay in the early 1980's because it made seed, and was a Standard White. We now know that it is good for other colors as well, including blush pink. Here, we try for medium sized flowers, flat, with cream to pink tones, possibly with some spotting.

CA8400 Buena Bay (Yerba Buena 'White Cap' HCC/AOS x Saint Ouens Bay 'Cerritos' AM/AOS) 4-6" $30

We know what these may look like. The AOS Awards Quarterly illustrates the original AQ strain, bred by us, and the many awards to that group. Milky white, glossy flowers of superior form are the goal.

CA8423 (Buena Bay 'Noel' x Rosy Prospect 'Lucky Pink') 4-6" $40

The goal here is large, full and flat flowers with strong pink and rose tones on tall stems.

CA8432 Carolyn Ethel

(Tangold 'Cerritos' HCC/AOS x Saint Ouens Bay 'Cerritos' AM/AOS) 4-6" $45

When it first flowered, the original strain of this cross received AOS awards on its beautiful, waxy white flowers. Here, we look for the same.
